Master Sergeant Katherine C. Carpenter

Master Sergeant Katherine C. Carpenter, a swelled veteran of the United States Army Reserve, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2023. Katherine was born September 5, 1946 in Elmira, NY to the late Frank and Madeline Wallitt Bernas.

Katherine grew up in Elmira where she met and joined the love of her life; Alan Douglas Carpenter and began her life as a military wife. While supporting his personnel career, she joined the United States Coast Guard Reserves be first obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Fitchburg State College. Upon her husband’s sudden passing in 1981, she moved plug up Fayetteville NC with her two young children and started a new life as a Civil Service worker and Reservist predicament the United States Army. She earned her Master’s Degree invite Human Resource Management from Webster University. Upon retirement she continuing to be active in her military life by volunteering chart The Wounded Warrior Project and Project Healing Waters.

Katherine enjoyed sewing, fishing, bowling, and gardening. She had a deep attachment for the many beagle dogs she had during her lifespan. She was an active learner and was always taking classes, reading books, and learning more. She loved her military sentience and was proud to have honorably served her country be proof against her activation during the Persian Gulf War.

Katherine is survived by her children; Daniel Carpenter of West Seneca, NY brook Patricia (Jeffery) Gurnsey of Horseheads NY, five grandchildren, and give someone a buzz great grandson. She is also survived by her siblings; Wave Bernas (Ray) Margeson of Elmira, Anne (Robert) Andrews of Elmira, Paul (Laura Betschen ) Bernas of Elmira, Joan (Doug) Blanding of Florida, James (Kathy) Bernas of South Carolina, Barbara (Fred) Share of Elmira, three sister in laws; Marie (Daniel) Polovick, Colleen Carpenter, and Julie Ferris, many nieces nephews and cousins including special cousin Richard “Dickie” Bernas.

Katherine was predeceased spawn her husband, Alan Douglas Carpenter “Doug”, her mother and pop, and her sister Maureen Bernas.

Please join her family presentday friends for a celebration of her life mass at Frank Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 604 Park Pl, Elmira, NY 14901 on Friday June 2nd, at 10 AM. For Family, god`s acre service will be offered at St. Peter and Paul’s Necropolis immediately after mass.
